We originally met (and made bad impressions on each other) July 4, 2017 at a party at a mutual friend’s house. We were both still in college at KU. Logan was shooting Roman candles at a buddy in the tree covered yard of the old wooden Victorian house the party was at.

In 2019, everyone had pretty much graduated, but rent in Lawrence was cheap. We individually stayed in town with friends finishing their bachelor’s or working on graduate degrees, commuting to Kansas City for work. The same group of mutual friends from the 2017 July 4th party had shrank with the start of adult life, and we met once again, at the pool each weekend. We got to know each other without the Roman candles. The picture above is our very first together, from October 2019 with friends at a KU Football game.

That Fall, before Covid rocked the world, we moved separately to the North and South ends of KC and started our relationship shortly after. In 2023 we moved in together and moved to Chicago, IL. We got engaged August of 2024 in the sculpture garden at the Nelson Art Museum in KC, MO. McKenzie had just beaten Logan at mini golf.

Logan reminds McKenzie it’s not that serious & McKenzie reminds Logan that sometimes it is. We learn from each other every day, having grown up a lot together in the six years from 2019 to now.
